Today, our brief was to create a visual portfolio on our career experiences as well as the skills gained across our career thus far. The process of building out todays' dashboard starts where they all do. With a user story, for this use case, however. It is me, so it was quite quick to create. I then did some scoping and started brainstorming different ideas and things to do. I collected all of my ideas and research on a Figma Frame so that i was able to refer back to everything in one place.
Creating the Dataset
Once i had a rough idea of ways i wanted to visualise my portfolio i started creating the data. I decided to manually enter my data for 2 main Reasons
- I wanted to add to this dataset, finding a way to connect to a form or an application.
- I wanted to add my own personal reflections on my projects, with this in mind i thought it wasn't much point to use AI. As i would have to add reflections manually regardless
Creating Visuals
Once my visuals were created, i then started to visualise the data in Tableau. Playing around with certain chart types, I realised that some of the visuals aren't reflective of the information or data i was trying to portray. And thus i decided to pivot here and create a chart based on length spent developing a certain skill instead of a profiency rating.
Lessons and Key Takeaways
- Given the constraints of time, using Gemini would have helped escalate the project further, even if it was just to use as a starting ground and then adding onto.
- Make sure to also title your slides so It doesn't say 'Untitled'
- Its okay to have many ideas, and it is okay that somethings its difficult to focus them down. But before jumping to one, evaluate what the trade offs are! :)
