Dashboard Week - Final Day

The final day! And is there a better theme to end training with LEGO!!!

Today we chose a brief related to sports & athletics, but in the world of Lego. I chose to understand the people of LEGO Mini Figs!
The goal was to try to understand which sets and minifigures from sports were named and which weren't.

Trying to parse out that information was quite the challenge, but a fun one!

The process

I started out by trying to plan out how the Query will flow, where to look first and where to go from there. I then realised, pretty late in the day, that my original approach was a lot tougher than I thought and there was a much simpler and quicker way to get to the information i needed.

With that being said, I learned a lot about how to use both AI and my pre-existing knowledge of SQL to produce an output! And spending time looking at the data made it quite comfortable to explore and visualise.

Visualising - Building out the visuals was quite quick, but came together pretty quickly than expected. I managed to drill down into details and present the specific sets named vs unnamed minifigures came from. Granted, there is still a lot of work to do. It is a nice starting point to go further.

Key Takeaways & Learnings

I have learnt a lot from today's project, a few being listed below, it was a great opportunity to explore a different way to collect, transform and visualise the data.

  1. Remind yourself that you have time, and that recognising other ways or simpler approaches is a great thing!
  2. Using Tools to help speed up the process and freeing up mental capacity to make decisions.

Where am I planning to take the project

  1. I want to reevaluate my table, see if there is a better way to do it, maybe even try a different AI tool like CoCo
  2. Continue refining the Query view and bring in more contextual data, like Set popularity
  3. Trying out the same process but in Tableau and comparing the two approaches
