How to Do Quick LODs in Tableau

Did you know that you could do quick LODs in Tableau? I sure didn't, which is why I'm passing on my knowledge!

Typically, you'd make an LOD by creating a calculated field with the FIXED syntax, like so:

... but another way you could make a simple LOD is by:

  1. Clicking the measure you want to aggregate
  2. Dragging it to the dimension you're fixing on
  3. Holding CTRL and dropping it onto the dimension

Here's what it looks like using the same fields in my first example!

One major limitation is that this method only allows one measure and one dimension, so complex LODs can't be built in this way. But otherwise, it's still a neat feature!
