Dashboard Week - Day 3

On Day 3 of Dashboard Week, we embarked on the task of creating a fictitious company and generating a dataset that would align with its hypothetical business operations. To accomplish this, we harnessed the capabilities of Chat GPT to curate the necessary dataset fields. Subsequently, we leveraged this data to construct a Business Key Performance Indicator (KPI) dashboard using Power BI.

For my chosen fictitious company, I opted for 'Extraterrestrial Assurance Co.,' specializing in insuring against abductions. To acquire the requisite dataset, I sought Chat GPT's guidance on the necessary data fields and proceeded to create a dataset by implementing these recommended columns. I then requested a Python script for this dataset, allowing for a variable number of rows, which I saved to my desktop. In my script editor, I subsequently adjusted the row count to suit my requirements.

The next phase of the project involved the planning and design of the dashboard. I aimed to visualize the temporal trends in abduction claims, as well as to compare the number of claims taken out in the current year with those from the previous year. Additionally, I intended to explore demographic information pertaining to policyholders in the latter half of the dashboard.

Within Power BI, I imported and cleaned the data using Power Query, and then proceeded to craft various charts. While most of the chart creation was straightforward, the most challenging aspect lay in calculating percentages, which necessitated a grasp of DAX (Data Analysis Expressions) to aggregate data at specific levels of detail.

Today's experience has ignited my enthusiasm to delve deeper into Power BI, expand my knowledge of its coding languages, and continue exploring its potential.
