In this blog we will go through how to make a lollipop chart. The sample superstore data on tableau is being used to feel free to follow along or use your own dataset.
Step 1: left click and drag the sub category field to rows
Step 2: left click and drag the sales field to columns
Step 3: repeat the previous step, so the sales field appears twice (side by side) in the columns shelf
Step 4: Create a dual axis by right clicking the second sales field in the columns shelf and selecting the dual axis option, so that the 2 separate graphs become one with the same axis
Step 5: In the second sales marks card, in the dropdown marks menu, select circle
Step 6: In the first sales marks card, in the dropdown marks menu, select bar
Step 7: right click on the second sales axis that appears and select the synchronize option, this is to make sure that both sales axes are equivalent and match each other
step 8: right click on the sales axis at the top and deselect show header to remove the top axis since both the top and bottom sales axis are now the same so there is no point in having 2 as it just takes up unnecessary space
Step 9: In the first sales marks card, change the size of the bars by toggling the blue marker that appears, feel free to edit the size until you are happy
Step 10: If you haven't already change the view from standard to entire
Step 11: In the second sales marks card, select the size mark and toggle the blue marker that appears to change the size of the circles, feel free to adjust the size until you are happy
Step 12: Sort the lollipop bars in descending by selecting the icon shown
Step 13: your lollipop chart is now complete, I hope this worked out for you too!
