Joining the data school you are required to get two certifications. The Alteryx Designer core certification and Tableau Data analyst certification.
Alteryx has a certification prior to the core called the micro credential. Is it worth taking? In my humble opinion, no it isn't. Seeing several of my peers in various other cohorts cheering in glee as they boast over the fact they have only been using Alteryx for a day and a half and were able to get a micro credential certification. It sounds great on paper but they are in for a rude awakening when they discover the micro credential set them up for failure!
The Micro credential is only 40 questions with an hour time limit. The core certification is 80 questions with a 2 hour limit. The micro credential is so easy you could probably finish it in less than 30 minutes. Time isn't a problem with the Micro credential which may put you under the impression that the core will be the same. You would be wrong. Only 1 person from my Cohort passed the core exam on the first try. Everyone echoed that time was the biggest factor. two hours wasn't ENOUGH time!
The format of the questions are different! The micro credential asks you what are tools capable of doing? and tell you how many to select. for example. "Which of the following options are available in the Select tool? select 3" or "Which tools only have input anchors. select 2" This will lead you to believe that the Core exam would be the same just more questions! You would be incorrect. The core exam asks you which tool would give me this result. for example "Which tool takes the provided input and creates the provided output?" or Which of the following sampling methods are available in the Sample tool? Select all that apply." Completely different format of questions!
In summary I think the micro credential is a waste of time and i don't suggest anyone take it.
