Adding Custom Shapes to Tableau Desktop

If you ever felt tired of Tableau’s default shapes, then this blog is for you! There are actually a way to include custom shapes into tableau desktop and here is how:

First download a free icon/image/shape you want to add to your tableau desktop. Make sure you know where you downloaded it!

Next, find the “My Tableau Repository” folder on your desktop:

Go into this folder and find the “Shapes” folder:

Now in the “Shapes” folder, you can create a new folder and call it whatever you desire.

Finally, drag your image into your new folder! Here I went for an info button. Info buttons are quite useful for fitting details that you want your viewers to see if they would like to learn more about a certain element in your dashboard.

Now to see these changes, you will need to close Tableau and reopen to see the custom shapes appear in your shapes options:

There you go! Get Creative!
