With a background in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Edinburgh, Melissa joined the Data School because they were drawn to the combination of technical and client-facing consulting. Applying their skills to software such as Tableau, Power BI and Project Management.
Throughout their degree, they particularly enjoyed analytical projects, including their dissertation on crowd flow dynamics, where they investigated how movement patterns differ between panic and non-panic situations. This experience strengthened their interest in using data to understand complex problems and support informed decision-making.
Since joining, they have developed a strong understanding of data preparation using tools such as Alteryx and Power Query, alongside growing expertise in dashboard interactivity. Through weekly client projects, they have also strengthened their time management and their ability to adapt quickly to new challenges as project requirements evolve.
