With a background in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Edinburgh, Melissa joined the Data School as she drawn to the combination of technical and client-facing consulting. Applying their skills to software such as Tableau, Power BI and Project Management.
Throughout their degree, she particularly enjoyed analytical projects, including a dissertation on crowd flow dynamics. This experience strengthened her interest in using data to understand complex problems and support informed decision-making.
Since joining the data school, Melissa has sharpened her data skillset through client projects, including;
She has built a Power BI dashboard that gave stakeholders a clear view of how workspaces were distributed across the service, together with their capacity requirements and costs, enabling them to identify opportunities to reduce and consolidate workbooks.
A Tableau overview dashboard that analysed usage across times and days of the week, explained the reasons behind that usage, and used spatial analytics to show stakeholders not only where their users were located, but also the most common needs within each area.
Managed a team that helped an education-sector stakeholder reduce their Alteryx workflow from 84 minutes to 6 and remove the need for a separate software tool. Delivering this relied on effective team leadership and time management, skills she has developed through coordinating the team’s workload and keeping the project on track.
