Alex McManus

With previous experience as a finance analyst for a large hospitality company and later as a consultant for a major retail bank in Australia, Alex's analytics expertise was developed through financial services. Initially utilising advanced Microsoft Excel formulas and basic VBA for analysis, his skill set expanded during his MSc in Global Financial Trading. Here, he used R Studio for statistical financial modelling, focusing on forecasting securities prices through multilinear regression models. Additionally, learning Python and utilising his trading and investment knowledge allowed him to develop basic trading bots based on his financial modelling, which he aims to continue developing over time.

Before transitioning into data, Alex completed an internship at a proprietary trading firm, gaining insights into the fast-paced environment of financial services. This experience honed his time management and decision-making skills, while exposing him to complex trading strategies for derivatives trading.

Alex's data fluency has continued to develop through application via a variety of software, particularly Power BI, Tableau, and Alteryx at The Data School. Exposure to senior stakeholders in client projects has refined his presenting skills and further developed his ability to convey complex ideas to diverse audiences. Motivated by his problem-solving creativity, Alex sought to join the Data School to tackle a wide range of challenges and apply his creative capacity to solve them effectively.

Outside of work, Alex enjoys engaging in activities such as chess, music production, learning Spanish, and bouldering.
