Ready to get started?

We think your application to The Data School should be fun, tell us something about yourself and be something you are personally proud of. You may find it surprising but at this point we don't need to see a CV, just some data analysis about a topic you are passionate about.

It may seem a little daunting at first but don't worry, we are here to support you at each step. Take a look at the process below which outlines each stage you will go through on your journey to The Data School.

Once you submit your application we will be in touch with some personal feedback and tips which you can use to make your data story sing.

The Process

1. Join Tableau

Join the community and download Tableau Public by creating a new account. For tips on how to get started, these videos are great.

2. Find Inspiration

From all previously successful submissions, to the Tableau Public Gallery, there are brilliant examples for you to look at and research. Need more inspiration, check out Tableau's Viz of the Day to see what other Tableau authors have created.

3. Get Data

Choose any data set you want. We mean it; from politics to sport, TV and popular culture. Tableau provide many data sets on their resources page. Still unsure of what data to use? Check out the 90+ datasets available on the Makeover Monday website or our data source suggestions. Our top tip is to avoid using the Tableau Superstore or any other mock datasets, also please do not submit dashboards from follow-along YouTube tutorials. Find something that interests you!

4. Create Your Viz

Now the fun begins! Once you have your data set, you can begin creating your winning viz. Once it’s ready, publish it for all to see. Need help? Get in touch with any of the team or coaches! We’re more than happy to give advice and guidance. There are plenty of training videos on Tableau Public and The Information Lab and tons of tips written by our consultants past and present.

5. Share It

Once your work is live on Tableau Public and collecting love from the community, click on ‘Apply Now’ button below for the cohort you wish to apply for! Let our team of coaches help improve your viz. We review all visualisations sent our way and if you get it in early, we’ll provide feedback for you to make it even better. While you’re at it, send us a nice note too. Tell us a little bit about yourself.

6. Interview

If we see passion, creativity and a flair for data, we'll follow up with you personally and invite you for a video call, followed potentially by in-person interview with the team.
