An Unexpected Journey

Hi everyone,

my name is Aaron and this is my introductory blog post to get to know me a little better.

I have had a strong interest for computers and programming ever since. So today I am good frieds with the pinguin (Linux). And I am very grateful for things like Python.

Nevertheless my journey to data was neither anticipated and nor did it follow a direct route. It took me quite a while to get my hands on affordable hardware. So experimenting and exploring computers (thereby breaking my OSes in multiple and sometimes funny ways) started late. Also my school years provided less than optimal math most time. Which left me with impression that I couldn’t like even a small portion of it. So I wasn’t starting out predestined to work with data.

A turning point came in University. For one my studies requested quite a chunck of statistics. Furthermore data analysis started to grow on me. I experienced some kind of pivotal moment when working hands on with data. A bunch of data were transformed from an incomprehensible chaos into a focused view and actual insight in the end. Cryptic rows and columns revealed their meaning.

From here on my interest in data analysis grew stronger and wider continuously. Eventually it got caught by Data Science since I was working with (linear) statistical models in University already . But I had to realize that I couldn’t get much support from my department.

I consider myself curious but it was only after then that I developed my own personal framework of learning. My interest grew into a passion and I continued learning data skills after I finished Uni. A Bootcamp in Data Science at neuefische in Hamburg, many other courses in Data Engineering, one in Deep Learning and several certifications followed.

Eventually this path let me to The Information Lab and its Data School. I wasn’t much familiar with Dashboards and Tableau before. Also, I did struggle at some points since its logic worked differently than that of for instance Python libraries. But Tableau allows me to destill insights from data way faster than before. Its design as well as its interactive data visualisations and not least its inspiring Data Community are a huge plus.

Therefore I am really happy and grateful for having found the Data School. Looking forward to many more interesting and inspiring moments! I am curious where this journey leads me towards next!

😊🤩
