Dashboard Week Day 1: Accessibility Dashboard

by Islande Derazin

Today, for dashboard week we learn about Accessibility:

Why make visualization more accessible:

Millions of people in the United States are blind or have low vision  Therefore, accessibility in visualization is a great way to make data inclusive and reach a broader audience.

Based on the web content Accessibility Guideline principles guidelines, there are four keywords for accessible visualization:

  • Perceivable:  Provide text alternatives to non-text content and use Alt text on images and button
  • Navigable: Make your dashboard easy to navigate, with or without a mouse
  • Adaptable: Give titles to legends
  • Distinguishable: Use color-blind palette, make your dashboard easy to read and understand

                  ----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Below is an example of how to use accessibility features in a dashboard. I created this dashboard to accommodate keyboard-only users. There is a parameter and a filter with single value slider.

I also use text to describe what is in the view, and an "Export to Excel" button to allow the user to download the information on the view
