Dashboard Week: Final: Day 4

by Sundus Jamaal

Todays task was to look through restaurant chain data.

The data was clean and so I felt that this helped me a lot in my time management and cut out a lot of the work. Although the data was clean this didn't mean I had an easy time handling the data as I found it to be quite limited in terms of giving you insights.

I then decided to pair this data with obesity data that I had found on Kaggle. this helped me with widening my flow of ideas and allowed me the option of creating more comparative and creative charts.

Issue's I faced?

  • I've realized that I have no set structure when exploring the data and in turn this means my time management takes on a knock on effect.
  • I take too long when researching about the topic and so I opt to abandon it and this in turn means I don't have questions to explore the data with and this then wastes more time.
  • I lack inspiration on how I want the dashboard to look like and this also wastes time because it leaves me taking a long time to figure which chart best visualizes what the information is showing.

Solutions

  • I plan to create a workbook where I put a lot of creative charts and therefore I can pull from there when I lack inspiration and will also help me to see which charts best visualizes the information i want to present
  • Hopefully in placement i won't be asked to create a dashboard with a brand new dataset in a day. However this week has helped to realistic time track how long tasks take me, so in future I will be able to plan how long research takes me and in turn come up with questions that help me explore the data better and save time.
  • I've also learnt to ask for help earlier on and to not allow myself to panic and to choose one thing to focus on.
  • Lastly, follow the simplest train of though when in a time restrained situation and have something to present rather than nothing.
